What to do when I get an error "An error occurred while opening the database" when logging in to SuperOffice?

When logging into the SuperOffice, I get an error message:

An error occurred while opening the database. See Log File.

What does it mean and how do I fix it?

Most of the time this error message comes up when SuperOffice installation does not have a sufficient access to the document archive or ODBC connection.

To test Document Archive path (an access to SO_ARC):

1. Find and open SuperOffice.ini file on the computer with the issue. Most often it is placed in the Program Files/SuperOffice folder.

2. Copy the value after Archivepath =

3. Go to Start and Run (Windows button + R).

4. Paste the path from SuperOffice.ini in the dialog you get and press OK button.

  • If the user gets an error here it means that he/she does not have network access to the SuperOffice archive on the server. All SuperOffice users need to have it.
  • If user has access to the folder SO_ARC, this indicates that the user has access to the archive. Then you should can check that user has read and write rights to the folder. In order to do that try to create a new document in the folder.

To test ODBC (connection between a computer and a database):

1. Go to Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Data Sources (ODBC).

2. Find SuperOffice ODBC and go through the ODBC connection wizard.

  • If you get an error message on your way, make sure that values in ODBC responds to your installation.
  • If you did not identify any problem on any of steps contact support.
